Homeschool
As part of MoWest’s commitment to open access education, we value the opportunity to work alongside our homeschool students and partners. Early College Academy (ECA) aims to support students with the opportunity to earn both college and homeschool credit simultaneously. Alternatively, ECA provides a cost-effective, quality selection of courses, both on-campus and online. Still have questions? Request more information below.
Homeschool Frequently Asked Questions
How does ECA work with homeschool students/groups?
ECA aims to provide a seamless option for your student(s) who are homeschooled. Whether working as part of a group or just an individual family unit, ECA offers a number of courses both in-person and online to aid students in their preparation for college. Looking to build out a schedule on campus to compliment your existing programming? We can do that. If you would prefer to offer an online course asynchronously, we are happy to set this up too. Ultimately, our hope is to amplify what you’re already doing with your students.
Does eligibility requirements change for homeschool students?
No, our eligibility requirements do not change because a student is homeschooled.
Do we need to change our curriculum and schedule to accommodate ECA offerings?
No, we have a number of options and formats available for students to work within your existing programming. While a number of homeschool students come to campus, we have both in-person and online options available to fit your specific needs.
Who’s eligible for dual credit courses?
All high school students are eligible for ECA enrollment. Please note that home school students must still provide a transcript to verify the following criteria:
9th Grade
- Overall minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale*
- Approval from Early College Academy*
- Parent or legal guardian approval/consent**
10th Grade
- Overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
- Parent or legal guardian approval/consent
11th and 12th Grades
- Overall minimum grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
- Parent or legal guardian approval/consent
At the time of enrollment, students must provide a high school transcript verifying the cumulative GPA based on a 4.0 GPA
Can I meet with faculty/departments?
We love to encourage all students to connect with our departments and faculty. If you are interested in a certain major or career path, please let us know and we will happily connect with the right people. Want a tour of campus? Our admissions team will happily coordinate everything you need.
Am I responsible for textbooks and additional materials?
Most ECA courses have online textbooks and materials or utilize the ECA library to loan textbooks for select courses. However, all of our undergraduate sections utilize MoWest Express, our Barnes and Noble textbook program. All texts and materials are automatically provided to the student as part of their tuition. Students are responsible for the proper care and return of all borrowed materials, whether from the ECA library or from Barnes & Noble. Failure to return items in a timely and proper manner may result in a charge for replacement of materials.
Are there any scholarships that can help with dual credit?
Yes! The state of Missouri provides a Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Scholarship that is accessed on eligibility rather than determined by award ranking. High school students who are eligible are highly encouraged to apply for the scholarship that covers tuition and fees for their dual credit or dual enrollment courses. More details on this scholarship can be found here: https://dhewd.mo.gov/ppc/grants-scholarships/dcde
What benefits do I get for taking dual credit courses?
ECA courses help students earn college credit, save money on future tuition, gain valuable experience for college-level coursework, and build confidence toward their post-secondary options all before graduating high school. Students have mostly full access to resources, departments, and auxiliary offerings (Athletics events, etc) that MoWest has to offer, age dependent.
