Burmese student Kevin Yang (Aung Moe Kyaw) was invited to perform a special concert in Washington D.C. on April 21 in support of the fourth annual Myanmar Music Festival to be held in Myanmar this June. There were two special guests for the evening, Myanmar Ambassador to the United States Aung Lynn and his wife Kay Thi, who provided opening remarks. Additionally, the current Burmese Ambassador to the United States along with various officials from the United States Department of State were in attendance.
The event featured a performance by concert pianist and Festival cofounder/artistic director Kimball Gallagher. Kevin Yang, a full-scholarship piano major, joined Gallagher. Yang is from Yangon and is currently the only Myanmar-raised pianist currently studying music at an American university.
