• Marti Burri, Missouri Western’s Esry Student Health Center nurse, was named the March of Dimes Public Health Nurse of the Year at the March of Dimes’ Missouri Chapter Nurse of the Year Gala in St. Louis. Seventeen nurses were honored from 150 nominations.
  • The Missouri Western Chorale was selected to perform at the 2012 Governor’s Candlelight Tour, an annual event at the governor’s mansion in Jefferson, City, Mo. The Chorale performed a concert on the front steps of the mansion and on the mansion’s Grand Staircase for the crowd of thousands. Gov. Jay Nixon and his wife, Georganne, told the group that it was the best choir that had ever performed in the mansion.
  • Music students Adrienne Collins and Donovan Jones were invited to perform at Gov. Jay Nixon’s inauguration reception in the capitol rotunda in January 2013. Adrienne was also selected as a finalist for the George London opera competition in Chicago.
  • The Prairie Lands Writing Project was selected to participate in the National Writing Project’s $14.9 million, multi-year “College-Ready Writers Program and Evaluation,” a highly-competitive federal i3 (Investing in Innovation) research grant. NWP’s application was one of 20 funded from 727 submitted, and Missouri Western’s PLWP was one of only 10 NWP sites around the country selected to participate.
