Baseball
The comeback Griffs did it again on Sunday, April 14. Griffon baseball (17-15 overall, 14-10 MIAA) tallied six runs in the bottom of the eighth to clinch a season sweep of rival Northwest Missouri (17-19, 13-11) with a 7-6 victory.

They are playing at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas April 18-20 and will return home for several games beginning April 26.

The men’s golf squad placed second at the SBU Invitational on Tuesday, the team’s last tournament before the MIAA Championship. Patrick McCarthy earned his first tournament win of the season, dominating the field with a three-round score of 215 (-1). He was named MIAA Golfer of the Week.

The Griffons finished in a tie for second place among the 16 competing teams, shooting a total score of 896. The Griffons were consistent throughout the tournament, scoring rounds of 297, 300, and 299. Their second-place finish also ties their best finish of the season, as the Griffons also tied for second at the Holiday Inn Express Classic in St. Joseph.

The team returns to St. Joseph to prepare for the MIAA Championship in Monkey Island, Oklahoma on April 24.

Women’s Golf
MIAA Championships for women’s golf begins April 23 at the Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kansas.

Softball
The team played a doubleheader at Missouri Southern State University April 12 and Pittsburg State University April 13, winning all four games and its 12th in a row! The team now stands at 30-14 overall and 17-5 in the MIAA. They are ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II Central Region Rankings.

Senior left fielder Morgan Frost was named MIAA Hitter of the Week for the second time this season.

Tennis
In the team’s final match before the MIAA Championships, Missouri Western (11-12, 2-7 MIAA) fell to Nebraska Kearney (14-12, 3-6 MIAA) in an afternoon road match. The Lopers topped the Griffons 6-1, winning five out of six singles matches after a competitive series of doubles matches.

The Griffons will have over one week away from competition before they travel to Oklahoma City for the MIAA Championships beginning on April 26.

Track & Field
Next up, the teams will be in Warrensburg, Missouri on Friday, April 19 for the Mule Relays.
