The men’s basketball team under Head Coach Sundance Wicks stands at 9-11 overall with their latest win over University of Nebraska-Kearney on Jan. 26. After a Nebraska Kearney three-pointer cut the Griffons’ lead to just one point with 13 seconds remaining, Lavon Hightower nailed both free throws following a Loper foul to extend the lead to three. The Lopers missed the potential game-tying three on the ensuing possession, giving Missouri Western (9-11, 3-6 MIAA) the 83-79 road victory.

The win broke a four-game losing skid which included a loss to Fort Hays State on Jan. 24.

Women’s basketball under Head Coach Rod Edmisson came up short against University of Nebraska-Kearney 62-53. The Griffons trailed by as much as 13 points in the fourth quarter before chipping the deficit to just four in the final minute. However, Nebraska Kearney (12-7, 5-5 MIAA) made five of its final six free throws for the victory.

The women lost to Fort Hays State on Jan. 24, but beat Northwest Missouri State at home on Jan. 19.

Next up for the men and women are two home games — 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31 against Missouri Southern, and 2 and 4 p.m. against Pittsburg State on Feb. 2. That game is Missouri Western’s Military Appreciation game.
