Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy (Ages 7-12)
Leaders in Training (Ages 13-15)

Dear Parents, Partners, Guardians and Friends,

Here at the Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy, we have always prioritized our campers. As the world goes through these unprecedented times, we have been thinking about your families and dreaming about all the fun we planned for your kids. We care deeply about our obligation to provide healthy and safe programming. As a result, we have decided to cancel Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy in 2021.

We are sad about missing out on seeing you this summer, but we are already looking forward to next year.

The Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy (CLSA) was started in 1973 at Missouri Western State University (MWSU) to allow participants the opportunity to interact with faculty and Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) in a fun and non-competitive environment. Our goal is to teach the skills, values and appreciations involved in lifetime sports activities which can be utilized throughout life for fun, health and fitness.

Activities
Some of the activities we offer include: Canoeing, Rappelling, Fishing, Archery, Obstacle Course, Pickle Ball, Badminton, Recreational Games, Swimming, along with many others. Due to the unpredictability of the weather some activities may not be offered. Each participant will be given one free sno-cone per day per camper. Additional sno-cones can be purchased for $1 each.

Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy for Ages 7-10
Ages 7-10 years old will receive basic (introductory) instruction in a number of lifetime sports.

Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy for Ages 11-12
Ages 11 and 12 will receive intermediate instruction in lifetime sports with emphasis on outdoor adventure activities.

Leaders in Training Program (Ages 13-15)
Leaders in Training will work on their leadership skills through fun activities. Leaders in Training will also learn about working with younger kids and will have the chance to practice their skills by leading some activities.

Enrollment Limits
To keep the numbers at a low ratio of instructor to participant we limit enrollment to the first 150 registered participants. It is recommended that you pre-register. If the Academy is not full, registration will take place at the Looney Complex on the first day of camp.

What to Bring
All equipment is furnished by MWSU. However all participants must furnish their own:

  • Tennis shoes

Location
The Academy is held in the Looney Complex, the Griffon Indoor Sports Complex and surrounding activity fields. Some of the activities may take place at off-campus sites. Students will be transported in college vehicles and college staff will supervise at all times.

Dropoff and Pickup
Please come to the east side of the Looney Complex each day to deliver and pick up participants.

No child may leave the CLSA during the afternoon without written consent from a parent or guardian. The note is to be given to the student’s group counselor the day the student will be leaving early.
