Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy (Ages 8-12)

The Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy (CLSA) was started in 1973 at Missouri Western State University (MWSU) to allow participants the opportunity to interact with Faculty and future Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) in a fun and non-competitive environment. Our goal is to teach the skills, values and appreciations involved in lifetime sports activities which can be utilized throughout life for fun, health and fitness.

R. Dan Boulware Convocation on Critical Issues

Missouri Western inaugurated the R. Dan Boulware Convocation on Critical Issues program in 1993, under the presidency of Dr. Janet Gorman Murphy. The program was started as part of an overall commitment to offer enriching experiences to students while bringing together the college and community. The Convocation is held in honor of R. Dan Boulware, former president of the Board of Regents.

Potter Art Gallery

The Potter Art Gallery is located at the front entrance of Potter Hall on the Missouri Western State University campus.

The primary mission of the Department of Art’s Visiting Artists and Gallery Program is to educate and foster a greater understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through discourse.

The gallery features 6-8 exhibitions each academic year.  The Department of Art views the exhibition program as an essential educational tool and an opportunity for students to see a wide range of works by accomplished artists.

Planetarium

Bring your family and explore the universe at the Bushman Planetarium. The planetarium features a Digistar 4 projection system and a dome that is tilted slightly, rather than directly overhead, making viewing easier. A 17-channel stereo sound system enhances your viewing experience. Located in Agenstein Hall, room 147.

Walter Cronkite Memorial

The Walter Cronkite Memorial was the vision of Dr. Robert Vartabedian, Former President of Missouri Western State University, to create a fitting memorial to St. Joseph’s beloved native son and one of the most important and trusted voices in our country’s history. Dr. Vartabedian’s vision was captured by Missouri Western art faculty members Eric Fuson and David Harris, who designed the unique artistic display illustrating Cronkite’s distinguished career with CBS television.
