Both Griffon basketball teams will return to the hardwood at home this week before the holiday break, the first action for both teams since the doubleheader against Lincoln on Dec. 8. On Wednesday, Dec. 19, the women (4-5) will start at 5:30 p.m. in the Looney Complex arena against Newman University from Wichita, Kansas (6-4) and the men (5-6) play at 7:30 p.m. against Rockhurst University from Kansas City, Missouri (6-3).

A win for the Missouri Western women would put them at a .500 winning percentage for the season. The Griffons have started .500 or better through the first 10 games in each of the last four seasons. Jessica Davies has given the Griffons a much needed offensive boost. Davies is averaging over 13 points and 30 minutes over her last three games, including a career-high 18 points in the team’s win over Lincoln on Dec. 8.

Wednesday will be the fifth game that Griffon men’s basketball has played against a Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent. The Griffons are 2-3 against GLVC opponents this season.

A Griffon men’s win would give the Griffons a .500 record through 12 games. The Griffons have not been .500 or better after 10 games since the 2014-15 season.

The women play at home again on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 1 p.m., against Adams State University from Alamosa, Colorado. The men will play at home at 3 p.m. that day against University of Illinois Springfield.
