HAZING POLICY

Engaging in hazing constitutes a violation.

Hazing is defined as any act which endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, or which destroys or removes public or private property, for the purpose of initiation, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in a group or organization.

It is the University’s intent to advocate for change and educate organizations against hazing.

Hazing is not tolerated at Missouri Western State University.

Organizations found responsible will be adjudicated to the extent of the severity of the case.

Please reference the Missouri State Hazing Law in the RSO Student Handbook for the state’s interpretation of hazing.

Making a Report

To report an allegation of hazing, please contact Dr. Robert Goltra, Assistant Vice President &  Dean of Students in Blum 228, or reach the office by phone at (816) 271-5991.

You can also report anonymously by filling in the form on this page.

Staff will take the utmost precautions in ensuring that all reports remain confidential. We encourage individuals to provide enough information that we can verify the credibility of their concerns.

The following information can be helpful in beginning a hazing investigation.

  • Organization or Organization(s) involved
  • Individual(s) Involved
  • Place of incident(s)
  • Date/Time of incident(s)
  • Type of incidents(s) including as much detail as possible
  • Contact information (when possible)
  • Pictures or documentation

While any information can begin a hazing investigation, the more information that you are able to provide, the better. It is most important to identify the individuals affected or the organization(s) involved. When the name of the organization is not provided it becomes very difficult to investigate.
