April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and the Jazz Program at Missouri Western State University is doing its part to promote this great American Art Form by hosting its Spring Jazz Concert Tuesday, April 16.
The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Bob Long, will perform the music of great composers such as Oliver Nelson, who not only composed for TV and movie studios, but also for his own big band and the Count Basie Orchestra, and Thad Jones, one of the founders of the great Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra (today known as the Vanguard Big Band). They will also perform works by contemporary composers such as Steve Wiest, the former director of the famed University of North Texas One O’clock Jazz Lab.
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. in the Potter Theater. We invite you to come share an evening of great jazz with the Missouri Western Jazz Program. For more information please call Bob Long, Director of Jazz Studies (816-244-5840). Cost of attendance is free.
