This will be the fourth year for Adventure Sports Academy (ASA). Developing out of the success of our Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy (CLSA), the Adventure component will be for students who have graduated grades sixth-eighth. Continuing with the vision of CLSA, ASA participants will interact with faculty and future Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) majors in an energetic and non-competitive environment. The goal of ASA is to teach the skills, values and appreciations involved with adventure sports activities which can be utilized throughout life for fun, health and fitness.

Activities
This week-long academy will take participants and staff around the region to engage in canoeing, scuba diving, ropes course, martial arts, rappelling and skeet shooting. Each participant will be given one free sno-cone per day per camper. Additional sno-cones can be purchased for $1 each.

Enrollment Limits
To keep the numbers at a low ratio of instructor to participant we limit enrollment to the first 25 registered participants. It is recommended that you pre-register. If the Academy is not full, registration will take place at the Looney Complex on the first day of camp.

What to Bring
All equipment is furnished by MWSU, HPER Department. However all participants must furnish their own:

  • Tennis Shoes
  • Swimming Suit
  • Towel

Location
The Academy will be held in the Looney Complex, the Griffon Indoor Sports Complex, surrounding activity fields and off-site areas in Atchison, KS and Liberty, MO. Students will be transported in college vehicles with college staff supervising at all times.

Dropoff and Pickup
Please come to the east side of the Looney Complex each day to deliver and pick up participants.

Leaving Early
No child may leave the ASA during the afternoon without written consent from a parent or guardian. The note is to be given to the student’s group counselor the day the student will be leaving early.

Cost
The cost of the week-long adventure camp is $170 for the first child in the family and $160 for each additional age appropriate family member. Discounts are available for MWSU employees, students, alumni and Gold Coat members.
