Application Process for Federal Grant Programs

The first step in applying for Federal financial assistance is completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Be sure to indicate that you want your results forwarded to Missouri Western State University, school code 002490 when completing the application.

The Missouri Western State University priority deadline is February 1st each year.

FAFSA applications are available each October and should be submitted online in early January to ensure the February 1st priority deadline is met for the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG). Keep in mind, that if you are selected for Verification, you should submit all requested documentation to the Office of Financial Aid prior to the February 1st priority deadline date.

FAFSA applications will continue to be accepted and processed after February 1st for the Federal Pell Grant, Stafford Loans, and PLUS Loans.

Federal Grant Programs

Federal Pell Grant
The Pell Grant is the government’s largest need-based student aid program and is considered the foundation to which aid from other federal, and non-federal sources might be added. The actual amount received depends on the financial information reported on the FAFSA and the student’s enrollment status. Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress to continue eligibility. These funds do not need to be repaid. The U.S. Department of Education has established limits regarding the amount of Federal Pell Grant students may receive (Pell Lifetime Eligibility). Students may receive the equivalent of 6 full-time years (12 full-time semesters) in Federal Pell Grant funding (assuming all eligibility criteria is met). As students begin approaching the Pell lifetime eligibility limit, they will receive notification on the Student Aid Report (SAR). Once students have received the maximum, they will no longer be eligible to receive the Federal Pell Grant.
Application Procedures:  Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit any additional requested documents to the Office of Financial Aid.
