Sports AcademyJUNE 9-13, 2008
1:30PM-5:15PM Each day

The Children's Lifetime Sports Academy was started thirty-one years ago at Missouri Western State University to allow participants from the community to interact with Faculty and future Physical Education, Recreation and Exercise Science majors in an environment which is fun and non-competitive. Our goal is to teach the skills, values and appreciation's involved in lifetime sport activities which can be utilized throughout life for fun, health and fitness.

The participants which range from age 8-10 will receive basic (introductory) instruction in a number of lifetime sports. Ages 11 and 12 will receive intermediate instruction in lifetime sports with emphasis on outdoor adventure activities.

Some of the activities we offer are as follows: Canoeing, Rappelling, Scurry Hockey, Fishing, Archery, Obstacle Course, Mini Track, Swimming, Pickle Ball, Racquetball, Badminton, Snorkeling, Recreational Games and Fly Tying. Due to the unpredictability of the weather some activities may not be offered.

To keep the numbers at a low ratio of instructor to participant we limit enrollment to the first 150 registered participants. It is recommended that you pre-register. If the Academy is not full, registration will take place at the door of the Physical Education Building on the first day (June 9).

All equipment is furnished by Missouri Western State University, Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER). However, all participants must furnish their own tennis shoes, swimming suits, towels, change for vending machines. The HPER and Athletic Department DOES NOT SUPPLY CHANGE.

The cost of the week-long adventure camp is $75.00 for the first child in the family and $60.00 for each additional child.

On Friday June 13th parents are invited to visit the campus and observe, take pictures and visit with the instructors and counselors. If you would like additional information, please call (816) 271-4491.
