Program Overview

The Master of Education (MEd) program is intended for current and future educators, school administrators, current and future policymakers and other related service providers. The MEd program is designed to meet the needs of professionals who are seeking to learn techniques to more effectively differentiate instruction, who wish to enhance their understanding of the unique needs of diverse learners and who are interested in improving instructional practices in their school or district. Graduates of this program will walk away with core knowledge in instruction techniques and applied learning experiences to build on.

The M.Ed. program consists of 30 credit hours. Students complete 21 credit hours within one concentration of their choosing: Differentiated Curriculum and Instruction, K-12 Cross-Categorical Special Education, or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Students complete 9 credit hours of core courses, through which they participate in an applied Capstone Internship Experience.

What Will You Learn?

Designed for current and future professionals, this program contains three different concentrations that can make you a more well-rounded educator for any age. Depending on your concentration, it can also support administrators, speech pathologists, and policymakers. All MEd students complete a capstone internship experience project, for which the student will seek out and identify a host site and on-site mentor, then complete an intensive field-based internship, which guarantees some sort of deliverable(s) to the host site.

  • The Differentiated Curriculum & Instruction concentration equips educators with advanced strategies to tailor content, instruction and learning environments for diverse student needs. This program is ideal for teachers and instructional leaders seeking deeper expertise in inclusive practices and evidence-based differentiation.
  • The K-12 Cross-Categorical Special Education concentration prepares professionals to support learners with a range of disabilities in inclusive educational environments. This program builds skills in assessment, assistive technology, intervention strategies and collaborative practices critical for effective support of diverse learners.
  • The TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) concentration sharpens your ability to teach English learners of all ages, deepen your understanding of language acquisition, and design culturally responsive instruction. This degree is valuable for educators working in K–12, adult education, international settings and community programs.
