“You should keep an open mind when deciding what you want to do after graduation. You might discover that you really like an area during clinicals that you never thought you would. Also, get involved with your unit and hospital-wide committees and community service. It’s a great way to have your voice heard and to give back.”

Mary Beth Williams, Nursing

Major: Nursing

Mary Beth dreamed of working at Children’s Mercy Hospital since she decided to pursue a nursing career in high school. During her freshman year at Missouri Western, a friend’s son was diagnosed with leukemia, and she was inspired to focus on pediatric hematology/oncology.

For her senior practicum, she requested to work on the Hematology/Oncology/Blood and Marrow Transplant floor at Children’s Mercy Hospital. She did an eight-week rotation on the floor and was offered a full-time position, landing her dream job right out of nursing school!
