Missouri Western’s Accelerated RN to MSN Track offers you the chance to earn your Bachelor of Science in Nursing and your Master of Science in Nursing in as little as two years.

Minimum Admission Requirements: 

  • Graduate of Associate Degree Nursing Program* or Diploma Nursing School with a minimum overall GPA of 2.75. 
  • Current, unencumbered RN licensure in the U.S. (Note: Recent graduates will be placed on probationary status pending obtainment of RN license.) 
  • Completion of the following MWSU Nursing prerequisite courses (or equivalent courses) with grade of “C” or higher: 
    • General Studies Math Requirement 
    • Anatomy & Physiology 
    • Microbiology 
  • If these courses have not been completed prior to applying, the student may be accepted conditionally and must complete these courses with a C or higher prior to graduation. 
  • Supporting documentation as to why you wish to purse this accelerated pathway. 

*Graduates of ADN Program from a higher education institution with regional accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Graduates of non-accredited ADN programs should contact the School of Nursing & Health Professions for additional admission requirements.

  • For Spring admission: Nov. 1

Complete the application for MWSU’s RN-MSN pathway and include all required application materials. In order to have a complete application and be considered for admission to the School of Nursing, you must: 

  • Complete the general admission application form and be accepted to Missouri Western  
  • Complete the RN-MSN supplemental application form. The supplemental application form must include:
    • A copy of your RN license
    • A supporting statement as to why you wish to pursue this degree, and your future plans after graduation.

FAQs

Participants in this program will have both a BSN and MSN degree conferred. 

Students pursuing the accelerated path can complete their RN-MSN in two years. Students must be enrolled at least part-time in this pathway and can take no longer than four years to complete the degree.

Each cohort has 15 spots available; however, there are only 10 scholarships available for RN-MSN students with a focus on Nursing Education. 

Spots are available to both educator and leadership-focused MSN students; however, the fully-funded scholarship is only available to MSN Educator students.

Scholarship recipients will be required to commit to teaching in a Missouri school of nursing for at least three years following graduation.

A capstone clinical course is a requirement for the BSN degree. Students in their capstone will complete clinicals with a leader in nursing and focus their time on projects, policy, and other leadership-focused initiatives. Clinical in the MSN program is for educator students only and includes Advanced Health Assessment, Advanced Pathopharmacology, and internship hours where students complete clinicals with an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN).

Additional information

  • You must be eligible to lawfully gain employment in the U.S.A. 
  • Criminal background checks are required prior to beginning the Senior Capstone Clinical portion of the program in order to meet contractual obligations with clinical agencies (pursuant to Missouri Revised Statues Chapter 660.317.) An applicant who has been found guilty of a Class A or B Felony would not be allowed to participate in clinical nursing courses; therefore would not be able to complete nursing degree requirements. Some clinical agencies have more stringent requirements.
