International Student Services

Missouri Western State University International Student Service hosts and promotes a wide variety of events to help you adjust to life in the U.S., meet other international and domestic students, and provide you with opportunities to share your culture with the campus and the St. Joseph community.   We have some annual events that we hold each year such as the International Lecture Series, International Fair, semester mixers, and building a float for the Homecoming parade.  ISS also works closely with the International Student Club (ISC) when planning activities. On this gallery page, please see pictures from some of our past events.

Chinese New Year Celebration, 2015

Homecoming is a traditional event at American colleges and high schools.  Homecoming is a week-long event filled with activities planned by the MWSU student body.  The big event at the end of the week is a Homecoming parade through the streets of St. Joseph.  You can build a float or decorate a car, carry your country’s home flag, and walk around the parade route in the city, showing the spirit of MWSU

Mixer of International Students

At the beginning of each semester, ISS and ISC will hold a party for all the new and returning international students to gather together, meet each other, eat, play games, and learn more about the international students club and upcoming events.  We also have smaller get-togethers throughout the semester and during Thanksgiving break.

International Fair

International Fair is the biggest event on campus hosted by ISS and international students.  Every year we hold this event to show different cultures presented by the international students.  Students from each country will have a booth displaying information about their country, including culture, customs, native clothing, and food tastings.  Nearly 400 students, faculty, staff, and members of the St. Joseph community attended this event last year.

Habitat For Humanity

The last volunteer activity ISC hosted was for Habitat for Humanity.  Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that builds shelters for people who cannot afford housing.  One Saturday when the weather was nice, students got together and helped build a home in St. Joseph.  Everyone had a fun day bonding and working together for the greater good.  If you have an idea for a future community service event, please email us at

International Lecture Series

ISS holds an International Lecture Series event once a month during the school year. At each lecture, international students speak about their home countries and share their culture, history, and traditions with faculty, staff, students, and members of the St. Joseph community. Students also sing, dress in ethnic clothing, and audience member get to sample traditional desserts and appetizers.  Also, on the day before each lecture, Campus Dining prepares an ethnic meal that is served in the Dining Hall during lunch hours.  If you are interested in presenting on your home country or have a suggestion for a country you would like to learn more about, please email us at You do not have to be a part of ISS to present.

One World Soccer and Ping Pong Tournaments:

International Student Services co-sponsors an intramural One World Soccer Tournament and the Dr. Krikor Partamian Ping Pong Tournament each year.  Both tournaments take place in the spring. These events give you the opportunity to compete with your fellow students and meet new people.  Please check back on our website and read your Missouri Western email for information on these tournaments each spring semester.
