2018’s Western’s Got Talent show was the perfect way for students to flaunt their hidden talents, abilities and personalities.

From stand up comedy routines to song performances, contestants amazed and entertained the audience. The night’s contestants ranged from comedians and poets to dancers and singers.

Contestants were Jason Holliman, Ryan Morris, Zoie Reynolds, Bre Eison, Dianah Hidzir, Nah’Ryan Reed-Crawford, Eisley Hinton and Erica Lundy. Each contestant individually performed in front of an audience of judges including Shana Meyer, Vincent Bowhay and Isaiah Collier, as well as supporting friends and colleagues.

After some suspenseful silence, the judges chose their top-three. The show’s third place contestant and runner-up were both singers. Dianah Hidzir earned third and Nah’Ryan Reed-Crawford took home the silver.

Zoie Reynolds came out on top. She performed an original poem, “Lessons”, which she wrote after someone asked her “who hurt you?”. She said that she performed her piece because she wanted to express the importance of being affectionate.

“I wanted to express the effects of being told to suck it up and to not trust others,” Reynolds said. “I think our fear of showing affection and showing we care is dangerous, so I wrote about the causes and effects of it on my life.”

Western’s Got Talent brought to attention the talents of various Western students, displaying not only the extraordinary abilities students possess, but also Western pride.
