St. JOSEPH, MO—Last Wednesday at 7 p.m., the Western Activities Council hosted a movie night in the Blum Union. About 100 students of Missouri Western gathered in Blum 218 to hear the announcement of the spring concert and watch a new movie.

Members of WAC and the Student Government Association provided free pizza, popcorn and drinks to students. Everyone discussed their ideas on what they thought the spring concert was going to be and who they wanted it to be.

Before the movie began, members of SGA announced Missouri Western’s spring concert. This year, Maddie and Tae and Brothers Osborne will be coming to the Civic Arena to perform a concert. The concert will be for Missouri Western students, but is also open to the public.

Megan Harris is a sophomore at Missouri Western and attended the movie night on Wednesday. “I am super excited about the concert! I love Maddie and Tae and Brothers Osborne,” said Harris.

After the spring concert was announced, Mockingjay part 2 of the Hunger Games was shown. This movie has not yet been released on DVD and is still playing in some theaters, so students found it really interesting that WAC was able to show it for their movie night.

“I was here to watch the movie and I thought it was awesome. It was very dramatic and intense,” Harris said.

The students seemed to be very intrigued during the movie. During many of the suspenseful scenes, gasps could be heard throughout the room.

Candice Jenkins is the Vice President of WAC at Missouri Western. “We knew Mockingjay was really popular when it came out in theaters, so the fact that we could get movies that weren’t out on DVD helped us to determine which movie to show,” said Jenkins.

Many of the students talked about how excited they were that they were able to watch this movie. Most had not been able to go see it in theaters yet, so watching it for free at this movie night was really exciting to them.

“We knew we could get a good turn out,” said Jenkins.
