Public Planning & Administration

The only undergraduate major of its kind in Missouri, we prepare you for a career to improve the quality of life in your community. You won’t just learn social sciences and humanities, you will learn how to “do” them for the greater good.

Program Overview

This is the perfect degree for students interested in public service and serving their communities. You will work with local and regional governmental offices, museums and community organizations for practical experience in the field before you graduate. With elective courses and minor degrees, you can tailor your service-oriented skills in areas such as government, museums, health care and other social services.

Program Highlights

Missouri dual-credit and transfer students coming to MoWest may have up to three semesters of this major completed upon entry.

Why Public Planning & Administration at MoWest?

This is the only program of its kind in Missouri, an undergraduate planning and administration degree broadly based on social sciences and humanities disciplines.

Work experience is built right into the program, with at least three applied learning courses required. Graduates will be well prepared to start their careers with the practical experience they gain.

Career Outlook

The Public Planning and Administration degree will prepare students for internships and employment in many growing areas: local, state and federal government; non-profit organizations; community outreach and uplift organizations; and service-oriented businesses.

Program Requirements

Required courses provide solid foundational knowledge in social sciences and humanities like economics, history, philosophy, political science and sociology. You will gain practical, hands-on experience through a research-based course and two required external internships.
