Nicole Maines, transgender activist and subject of the bestselling book “Becoming Nicole,” will speak at MWSU March 29.

Transgender activist Nicole Maines will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29 in the Kemper Recital Hall, Spratt Hall room 101 on the campus of Missouri Western State University. Maines’ talk, part of the Center for Student Involvement’s “Standing in Your Truth” lecture series, is free and open to the public.

Maines was featured in the HBO documentary “The Trans List” and is the subject of the New York Times bestselling book “Becoming Nicole” by Amy Ellis Nutt. In 2014, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court case ruled that her school violated her rights by prohibiting her from using student restrooms.

Maines and her father will talk about Maines’ struggles and triumphs as a trans woman.
