The Center for Multicultural Education at Missouri Western State University will honor civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. with several events the week of Jan. 19.

  • In recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day federal holiday, the Missouri Western campus will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19
  • On Tuesday, Jan. 20, Missouri Western students will volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. The students will meet at Blum Union at 2:45 p.m. to be transported to the work site.   • At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Enright Community Room, Spratt Hall rooms 214-216, the annual MLK Drum Major for Justice Awards Banquet will honor a Missouri Western student, a Missouri Western employee and a community member who have been instrumental in social justice efforts and multicultural education. You can also nominate someone for an award at the CME website through Jan. 14.
  • At 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, the 2013 film “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” will be shown in the Kemper Recital Hall, Spratt 101. The showing of the movie based on the life of the famous South African leader is free and open to the public.
