Peer Advisor and Academic Mentor

My name is Brock Couch and I am a senior at Missouri Western. I am majoring in Biology with a concentration in Zoology and Wildlife Conservation. My hometown is a very small town called Greensburg, Missouri. I graduated from Knox County High School. I am a member of Tri-Beta, the Honors Program, and I do research with many of my Biology professors. I have five siblings, two older brothers, two younger sisters, and a younger brother.

Thomas Delgado

Peer Advisor and Academic Mentor

Thomas Delgado is a junior at Missouri Western State University studying Theatre Performance under Mr. Tee Quillin and Voice under Dr. Susan Carter. He has been performing since the age of five, starting off with community theatre and working his way up to professional theatre. He was in MWSU’s production of Sweeney Todd, as a member of the ensemble, American Story, as multiple characters, and can be seen in The Magic Flute, this fall, as Papageno. Thomas has also worked professionally for Starlight Theatre, in Kansas City, in Cinderella and Xanadu and Western Playhouse, here in St. Joseph, in Miss Saigon. He is also a proud candidate of the Actors Equity Association (AEA). Thomas is very excited to be kicking off his career this early in his life with such a wonderful support group; made up of his family, friends, professors, advisors, and mentors.

Mariela Diaz-Valdez

Hi! My name is Mariela Diaz-Valdez. I’m a senior here at Missouri Western and my major is Nursing. I love all of my science classes and I can’t wait to be a nurse. I am a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha and nothing makes me more proud than wearing my letters around campus. I love to learn different languages and about other cultures

Jessica Fisher is a senior at Missouri Western.  She is majoring in Elementary Education.

 Peer Advisors

Peer Advisors serve in the Student Success & Academic Advising Center front office as paraprofessionals. They assist students with issues related to course selection, major selection, and adjusting to university life in general. Peer Advisors help to acquaint students with Missouri Western policies, procedures, requirements, and registration information. They also participate in registration activities including “Big R”, Walk-In, and late registration. Likewise, Peer Advisors assist in referring students to resources across campus that can help them to enhance their educational experience.

Mervin Collins is a sophomore at Missouri Western State University. Mervin is majoring in Electronics Engineering Technology.
