Instrumental, Piano, and Vocal soloists and ensembles are winning state and national awards raising awareness for the quality and exciting opportunities at Missouri Western.
Many ensembles and performance opportunities are open to musicians majoring in music or non-music related fields, offering a diverse opportunity for students to work together in their pursuit of music excellence. Instructors in the department of music pride themselves on the one-on-one instruction given to students, something other institutions are not always able to provide. Students here are given many opportunities to perform including our highly acclaimed Extreme Percussion performance, Musical Theatre and Opera productions, a wide variety of choral ensembles, instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles, the Griffon marching band, Renaissance Singers, Symphonic Winds, Guitar Ensemble, Cell Phone Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. The list goes on and on.
Students are closely advised by music faculty seeking the student’s best interest. This close contact allows students to be successful making a smooth transition into university life. Those seeking a Bachelor of Music with concentration in technology or business, Music Education with concentrations in either vocal or instrumental certifications, or Bachelor of Arts degrees with vocal or instrumental emphasis can expect to be well-prepared with knowledge and skills vital in today’s music industry, public schools, and graduate programs. MWSU also offers a minor in music. The department of music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
