The Center for Workforce Development at Missouri Western State University has gathered intel from organizations within the region to procure the training offerings shown below. These are industry-relevant programs meant for improving your knowledge and skills within a short time period. MoWest’s programs are designed to meet the differing needs of adults by offering programs online, evenings, weekends and during the workday for convenience and accessibility.

These programs are offered on specific dates just a few times a year, so register early!

Our Online Programs

You can start our online programs any time and progress as quickly or conservatively based on what works for your schedule. All you need is a tablet or computer and you can learn from work, home or anywhere with internet access. Once you register, you’ll receive a welcome email with instructions, including a suggested timeline for completion. Then, you can immediately begin your program. We work with you to ensure your success with regular check-ins via email or phone. You get more at MoWest!

  • Behavioral and Psychiatric Health Technician – Prepares you to take the AAPT-Level 1 exam certified by the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians.
  • Dental Assistant – Prepares you to take the NELDA certification (included). This is an American Medical Technologists approved program.
  • EKG Technician, Certified – Prepares you to take the CET* certification from the National Healthcareer Association.
  • Healthcare Documentation Specialist, Certified – Prepares you to take the CEHRS from the National Healthcareer Association (included).
  • Hemodialysis Technician – Prepares you to take either the CHT* from BONENT or the CCHT* from the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission.
  • Medical Administrative Assistant – Prepares you to take the CMAA or CEHRS from the National Healthcareer Association.
  • Medical Assistant, Certified – This course is three in one! It combines the clinical medical assistant, phlebotomy technician and EKG technician training all in one. This program prepares you to take the CCMA, CPT* and CET*.
  • Medical Billing and Coding – Prepares you to take the CBCS from the National Healthcareer Association.
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant – Prepares you to take the CMLA* and the CPT* (certified phlebotomy technician) exams. This is an American Medical Technologists approved program.
  • Medical Office Manager – Prepares you to take the CMAA, CEHRS and CBCS exams.
  • Medical Records Specialist Certification Program – Prepares you to take the CEHRS exam (included) from the National Healthcareer Association.
  • Medical Transcription Editor – This program is certified and approved by the Approval Committee for Certificate Programs, which is a joint committee established by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and the American Health Information Management Association. Editors listen to recorded dictation of a doctor and transcribe that critical information. They may also proofread and edit reports generated by speech-recognition software. This training prepares you to take the RHDS exam from AHDI.
  • Optician Certification Training
  • Phlebotomy Technician – Learn how to properly collect blood from patients and prepare samples for testing. Prepares you to take the CPT* exam from the National Healthcareer Association.
  • Physical Therapy Aide – Prepares you to take the Physical Therapy Technician/Aide certification exam offered by the American Medical Certification Association.
  • Sterile Processing Technician – Prepares you to sit for the CRCST provisional certification exam from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association. Then, after 400 hours of on-the-job training, you can submit for your full certification.
  • Veternary Assistant – in cooperation with the St. Joseph Animal Shelter.

** – Refunds for workforce development programs, unless otherwise noted on the specific program page, are available at 100% up to 7 days in advance of the start date of the program. Refund requests received 6 or fewer days before the start date of the program, or any time after the start date of the program, will not be approved.
