Johnda Boyce will share her experiences serving as an international election observer with the Carter Center in Kenya at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1 in Agenstein Hall, room 224 on the campus of Missouri Western State University. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The Aug. 8, 2017 election marked the third time the Atlanta-based Carter Center had observed an election in Kenya. Boyce served as a short-term observer, arriving in Nairobi for training after doing extensive reading on her own. She then deployed to a rural part of the country with her observer-partner. She will talk about preparations for the trip, her experiences being immersed in a different legal system, and what it was like to observe and document democracy in Kenya.

Boyce is a staff attorney at Legal Aid of Western Missouri in Kansas City. She holds degrees from Southeast Missouri State University, The Ohio State University and the University of Arizona.
