The public is invited to a reception and awards ceremony celebrating the publication of Missouri Western State University’s two literary magazines, “The Mochila Review” and “Canvas.” The reception will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 25 in the Junior College Room, Blum Student Union room 234. It is free and open to the public.

“The Mochila Review” is Missouri Western’s national literary magazine. In former years, the magazine published established poets, essayists and fiction writers. Now it is dedicated to publishing only works submitted by U.S. undergraduates who are not Missouri Western students. Also, it switched from being a print publication with an online presence to being an online journal with a print-on-demand option.

“Canvas” publishes only creative writing and visual art submitted by Missouri Western students, alumni, faculty and staff. It remains a print publication. Student winners will be recognized in three categories: prose, poetry and visual art. “Canvas” is an applied learning experience made possible by a grant from the Missouri Western State University Foundation.
