The second annual Conference on Child Abuse Investigation will be held April 16-17 in the Fulkerson Center at Missouri Western State University. A free public presentation by the JAYC Foundation will precede the conference at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15. The presentation by Dr. Rebecca Bailey and Terry Probyn is titled “Keeping Kids Safe: Terry Probyn’s Story.”

The JAYC Foundation was founded by Jaycee Dugard with a vision of supporting and ensuring timely treatment of families that are recovering from abduction and the aftermath of other traumatic experiences. Jaycee was kidnapped in 1991 and survived 18 years of physical, sexual and emotional abuse at the hands of her assailants until 2009, when she was reunited with her mother and family.

The presentation is free and open to the public, but those wishing to attend need to call 816-271-4100 by April 9 to reserve a seat. After the presentation, Dr. Bailey will sign copies of her book, “Safe Kids, Smart Parents” and “A Stolen Life: A Memoir,” written by Jaycee Dugard.

The conference April 16-17 is for law enforcement officers and administrators, social workers, attorneys, educators, juvenile officers and those employed in healthcare, especially nurses. The cost of the conference is $90 to attend both days or $50 to attend one day. For more information or to register for the conference, call Patty Kuechler at 816-271-4115 or go to www.wi.missouriwestern.edu/conference.
