Area literacy volunteers will be honored at the 2014 Literacy Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20 in the Hoff Conference Rooms, Blum Student Union rooms 218-219 at Missouri Western State University. Reservations are due by 4 p.m. Monday, March 17, by calling 816-271-4100. Donations are welcome to help with the cost of the meal.

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt will be the featured speaker. After his remarks, the Roy Blunt Literacy Citation will be presented to a local volunteer who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to helping others develop and improve their literacy skills. The award was established in 1991 to recognize Sen. Blunt’s long involvement in education and literacy issues.

The Literacy Luncheon is coordinated by the St. Joseph School District and the Western Institute at Missouri Western State University.
