Corky Marquart ’84, chair of the MWSU Foundation Board of Directors, will reign as Queen of the 2013 Lights and Tights Renaissance Feast.

Join Missouri Western State University on Thursday, November 14th as we visit La Mancha, Spain, circa 1605 for the 5th Annual Lights and Tights Renaissance Feast. Corky Marquart, as chair of the Missouri Western State University Foundation Board, will reign as Queen with her King, Judge Keith Marquart. The famous Spanish author Cervantes, who penned Don Quixote, will make a special appearance. The evening’s festivities will incorporate Spanish flair, flavor, merriment and music.

“This is a fun way to celebrate fall and get into the spirit of the holidays,” said Dr. Laurel Vartabedian, one of the organizers of the event. “It has gotten bigger and better each year, and we invite the community to help us celebrate our fifth annual event.”

The evening will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by a delectable three-course meal inspired by the region. Attendees will feast on Pollo a la Naranja (chicken in orange sauce) and baked Spanish rice with fresh vegetables. Dessert selections include strawberry flan or Brazo de Gitano (cream-filled sponge cake with raspberries).

The evening’s revelry will include traditional music and dance, featuring Missouri Western’s Renaissance Singers, Brass Ensemble and international students. Visiting Fulbright Scholar Clara Del Rey, who is from the La Mancha region, will lead attendees in an activity indigenous to the region. Participants will have the opportunity to win prizes, including the chance to be “coach for the day” at a Missouri Western men’s basketball game, tickets to the upcoming Missouri Western production of “The Producers,” wine from the La Mancha region courtesy of Smooth Endings and a catered dinner for ten from Chick-Fil-A. Costumes are not required, but are encouraged.

The cost to attend is $35, and proceeds will benefit the Missouri Western Renaissance Singers. The deadline to register is November 11th. Register online at www.missouriwestern.edu/foundation and click on Event Registration or call 816-271-4237 for more information.
