The Center for Multicultural Education and the Association of Latin American Students at Missouri Western State University will hold the first Hispanic Heritage Banquet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 in the Fulkerson Center on the Missouri Western campus. Doors open at 5:30. The event is free, but attendees must RSVP by Friday, Sept. 20. E-mail cme@missouriwestern.edu to make reservations.

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Marimba Sol de Chiapas, a Kansas City-based group committed to the authentic performance practice and spirit of the marimba band heard throughout Mesoamerica. The group has been featured on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” and made a cameo on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” So authentic is their interpretation and approach that the ensemble has toured Mexico on numerous occasions as guests of the Mexican government.

The banquet is being held in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins on Sept. 15 and ends Oct. 15.
