International Student Orientation
The Global Center offers an orientation for international students at the beginning of each semester.
Attendance and participation in international student orientation is mandatory for new international students. Failure to participate in all required sessions may result in delayed course registration and missed critical and useful information. Make-up session is not available.
Bring: Original passport and visa, and original I-20 or DS-2019
Typical International Student Orientation Agenda:
- Sunday & Monday – Airport pick up from Kansas City International Airport (Airport Code MCI) Please fill out Airport Pick Up Form
- Tuesday – Immigration document check, health immunizations, set-up free wi-fi on campus, obtain student ID card, open bank account, and student health insurance resources. Free transportation for personal shopping trip at local stores and Wal-Mart (bring money).
- Wednesday – Workshops and discussion regarding scholarship applications, immigration status, on-campus employment opportunities, and how to arrange university tuition/fees payment. Placement tests for undergraduate students.
- Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday – Griffon Edge: It’s a unique, extended orientation course designed to give incoming freshmen and transfer students a head start, or an “edge,” on their Missouri Western experience. There is so much to look forward to at Griffon Edge! Check out some of the highlights.
