Evan Banks ’19, Mo-Kan Regional Council

Oct. 28, 2026–The Alpha Chi National College Honor Society chapter at Missouri Western State University welcomes alumnus speaker Evan Banks ’19, who will present “Soft Skills are Hard Skills: Techniques and Tools for Practicing the Interpersonal” at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 in Murphy Hall, room 224. Banks’ talk is free and open to the public.

Banks will discuss how the term “soft skills” undermines the importance of these skills and how foundational they are for developing hard skills, career skills and life skills. Soft skills should not be treated as hidden curriculum, but as intentional learning for developing professionals.

Banks is the community development planner for Mo-Kan Regional Council, a regional planning commission. He also serves in leadership roles in Main Street St. Joseph and Wayward Dreamers Guild. Previously, he worked in the admissions office and as an academic advisor at MoWest. He received a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from MoWest in 2019.
