March 10, 2023–A team of Missouri Western State University students brought home third place in the Leadership Challenge Event at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, on March 2 and 3.

The event sponsored by the Washburn University Leadership Institute included a live, interactive leadership simulation. Student teams compete to fulfill the challenges and overcome the obstacles placed before them in a manner that demonstrates exemplary leadership knowledge and execution.

Missouri Western placed third out of 15 college teams at the event, and also won the Team Transformation Award. 

Team members included Lauren Bloodgood, senior biology major from St. Joseph; Emma Donaldson, senior political science major from St. Joseph; Israel Lovins, junior marketing major from Ferguson, Missouri; Artemii Udovenko, junior psychology major from Vladivostok, Russia; and Tia Vernon, junior elementary education major from North Kansas City, Missouri.

The team was coached by Josh Clary, Missouri Western’s student development director.
