students write around tableMarch 3, 2022–More than 150 high school students will be on the campus of Missouri Western State University on Friday, March 4 for High School Writing Day, co-hosted by the Prairie Lands Writing Project and the Department of Communication.

Students will learn new writing techniques and draw inspiration from workshops conducted by Missouri Western faculty and students, and have an opportunity to share their own work in an Open Mic event. 

The schedule is as follows: 

  • Opening session, 9 a.m., Fulkerson Center
  • Workshops, Round 1, 9:30-10:20 a.m.
  • Workshops, Round 2, 10:30-11:20 a.m.
  • Lunch, 11:30-12:10
  • Open Mic, 12:20 p.m., Kemper Recital Hall, Spratt 101
  • Closing Performance by Poet t.l. sanders, 1:30 p.m., Kemper Recital Hall, Spratt 101

Poet t.l. sanders is a writer and performer who recently won the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts 2021 Artful Poetry Contest and is a 2021 Missouri Arts Council Featured Artist. He is also a Prairie Lands Writing Project teacher consultant and is assistant director of curriculum for Frontier Schools.
