Junior Rhonda Gierstorff as the ‘Countess’ in The Department of Music’s Opera Workshop production of Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro.”

Young professional opera singers will join Missouri Western State University students and faculty and current and former area music teachers in a Missouri Western Opera Workshop production of Mozart’s comic opera, “The Marriage of Figaro.” The opera will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 7, 8 and 9 at Restoration Church, 117 Francis Street in Downtown St. Joseph. There will be an open dress rehearsal at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 6. Free-will donations will be accepted at the door to fund future Opera Workshop productions.

The cast of 14 will perform in 18th century period costumes with orchestra, including members of the St. Joseph Symphony. The opera will be performed in Italian with English surtitles and English dialogue.

Dr. Susan Carter, director of vocal studies, is the production’s director, and Dr. Matthew Edwards, director of keyboard studies, will conduct the orchestra. For more information, contact the Department of Music at 816-271-4420 or opera@missouriwestern.edu.
