The Missouri Western State University Clay Guild is sponsoring two juried national ceramic exhibitions in the Potter Hall Gallery now through March 20. There will be an opening reception for “Twin Cups” and “Off the Table: Plates for the Wall” from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 in the gallery. The reception is free and open to the public.

Connected Cups by Joe Molinaro is part of the Twin Cups exhibition.

Artists participating in Twin Cups submitted either functional or sculptural representations of a pair of cups, mugs or other drinking vessel. The exhibit features 59 sets of cups by 40 artists from 22 states. It is juried by Steven Hill, a professional studio potter since 1974 whose work is exhibited and sold in nationally juried shows and is featured in many ceramics books.

Off the Table includes functional or sculptural representations of plate or platter forms designed to hang on the wall. The exhibit includes 31 plates by 25 artists from 16 states. It is juried by John Dennison, who operates a one-man studio whose current work has evolved into a series of “Bowls Beyond Function.” These bowls and platters serve as a canvas on which to explore color, texture, theme and mood.

Open Woven Plate by Jan Schachter is part of Off the Wall.

The artwork in both exhibitions is offered for sale, with the Clay Guild receiving a 25 percent commission on each piece sold. For more information, visit the Guild’s website at www.missouriwestern.edu/orgs/clayguild/index.html.
