The Drum Major for Justice Awards will be presented at a banquet Jan. 21, 2015.

The Center for Multicultural Education at Missouri Western State University is now accepting nominations for the 2015 Martin Luther King Drum Major for Justice Awards.

The Drum Major for Justice Award takes its name from a passage in a 1968 sermon by Martin Luther King: “If you want to say I was a drum major, say I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. Say that I was a drum major for righteousness.” The award is for citizens who live ordinary lives but do extraordinary acts of service with reliability and commitment and seldom receive recognition.

The award will be presented to one Missouri Western student, one Missouri Western employee and one member of the community at the annual Drum Major for Justice Award Banquet on Jan. 21, 2015.

Nominations can be submitted online at www.missouriwestern.edu/cme/mlk-week. The deadline for nominations is January 14, 2015. For more information, contact the Center for Multicultural Education at 816-271-4150.
