The Department of Economics, Political Science and Sociology at Missouri Western State University will sponsor two forums for St. Joseph municipal candidates Tuesday and Thursday, March 25 and 27. The forums will begin at 7 p.m. each evening in Kemper Recital Hall, Spratt Hall room 101. They are free and open to the public.

The six candidates for City Councilmember At-Large have been invited to participate in the March 25 forum: Byron Myers Sr., Donna Jean Boyer, Jeff Penland, Ken Beck, Kent (Spanky) O’Dell and Kenneth W. Reeder. Mayor Bill Falkner, who is unopposed for reelection, has also been invited to speak.

The Thursday forum will feature candidates in the contested council district race. Pat Jones and Dennis Adams in District I, Ellis Cross and Joyce Starr in District II, and Barbara LaBass and Mary Attebury in District V have been invited.

Both forums will allow candidates to offer an opening statement, respond to questions from the audience and moderators, and offer closing remarks. Every effort will be made to equally balance the time for candidates.

The election is Tuesday, April 8. For more information on the forums, please call 816-271-4358.
