Some of the participants in the first Walk for the Homeless in 2012.

The Organization of Student Social Workers at Missouri Western State University and the Social Welfare Board of Buchanan County are holding a Walk for the Homeless from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 in downtown St. Joseph. Proceeds will help the homeless in the community with transportation costs for medical needs and employment opportunities.

Walkers can register for $15 by going to www.followmehome-less.webs.com. The registration fee includes an event T-shirt and a barbecue dinner after the walk.

The walk will begin outside the parking garage at the corner of 6th and Messanie and will follow the migration of the homeless. Simulations will be set up along the way to demonstrate what homelessness can look like.
