Lab experiments, team knowledge competitions, lab Olympics and a vacuum cannon competition were all part of Missouri Western State University’s annual Chemathon on Tuesday, April 30. Approximately 450 students from 20 area high school chemistry and physics classes visited campus to participate in the activities, and the following students received awards from the competitions:

Written Test:

Chemistry I – small schools: first place, Hope Gardner, home schooled, St. Joseph, Mo; second place, Jordan Shellenberger, Mid-Buchanan High School; third place, Chris Eaton, King City High School.

Chemistry I – medium schools: first place, Jayme Lowe, West Platte High School; second place, Brent Schultz, East Buchanan High School; third place, Brandon Robertson, Seneca High School.

Chemistry I – large schools: first place, Jason Bateman, Smithville High School; second place, Thomas Ottinger, St. Joseph Central High School; third place, Chase Chapman, Liberty High School.

Chemistry II: first place, William Xiao, Liberty High School; second place, Elizabeth Soper, Liberty North High School; third place, Nicklaus Smith, Liberty High School.

Physics: first place, Joshua Ehrich, Liberty North High School; second place, Christopher Vlamis, Liberty High School; third place, Jacob Sutton, Liberty High School.

Dual Credit: first place, Ben Frazier, East Buchanan High School; second place, Paul Spring, Liberty High School; third place, Chris Rick, Smithville High School.

Team Competition:

Chemistry I – medium schools: first place, East Buchanan High School; second place, Lathrop High School; third place, Lawson High School.

Chemistry I – large schools: first place, Liberty High School; second place, Liberty North High School; third place, St. Joseph Central High School.

Chemistry II: first place, Liberty High School; second place, Liberty North High School; third place, St. Joseph Central High School.

Physics: first place, Liberty North High School; second place, Liberty High School; third place, Smithville High School.
