Workers prepare to suspend “Evolving Trefoil” from the ceiling of the Remington Hall atrium on Feb. 22.

Two sculptures by artist Brent Collins of Gower, Mo., will be dedicated in a ceremony at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25 in the atrium of Remington Hall on the campus of Missouri Western State University. Following the ceremony, at 5 p.m., Dr. Carlos Séquin, a collaborator of Collins, will present a seminar titled “Artistic Geometry at MWSU: The Connection between Art, Mathematics and Computer Science” at 5 p.m. in Agenstein Hall, room 124. Both the dedication and the seminar are free and open to the public.

As part of the construction of Remington Hall and the renovation of Agenstein Hall, Missouri Western commissioned two large sculptures by Collins, who specializes in mathematically oriented art. “Music of the Spheres” is set outside the north entrance to Remington Hall on Downs Drive. “Evolving Trefoil” hangs from the atrium ceiling.

Collins has been sculpting since 1968. His work has been exhibited not only at art galleries around the nation, but at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Ill., and the American Association for the Advancement of Science headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Séquin received his Ph.D. in experimental physics in Switzerland. He has been on the faculty at the University of California-Berkeley since 1977. He has concentrated on computer graphics, geometric modeling, and on the development of computer-aided design (CAD) tools for circuit designers, architects, mechanical engineers and most recently, for artists like Collins.
