R. Dan Boulware

Missouri Western State University has established a scholarship in honor of R. Dan Boulware, managing partner of the St. Joseph office of law firm Polsinelli Shughart and former president of Missouri Western’s governing board. The scholarship was announced during the university’s Winter Commencement ceremony on Dec. 15, after Boulware was presented with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree and spoke to the 300 graduates.

Dr. Janet (Murphy) McCarthy, who was Missouri Western’s president when Boulware served on the Board of Regents, gave the lead gift to establish the scholarship for students who plan to attend law school. In just a few days, Boulware’s colleagues at Polsinelli Shughart, friends and family members have brought the scholarship fund to a total of $16,500. The Missouri Western State University Foundation continues to accept donations for the scholarship fund.

“The generous lead gift from Dr. McCarthy and the prompt and overwhelming response by Dan’s colleagues, friends and family are indicative of the high regard many of us have for Dan,” said Dr. Robert Vartabedian, Missouri Western’s president. “He is one of the most respected attorneys in the country and has been a tireless supporter of Missouri Western. Naming a scholarship in his honor is a small token of our admiration for all that he has done.”
