Dr. Angus Johnston will speak about the history and future of student activism at Missouri Western in honor of Constitution Day Sept. 17.

Missouri Western State University will celebrate Constitution Day with a discussion about the history and future of student activism by Dr. Angus Johnston at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17 in the Kemper Recital Hall inside Spratt Hall at Missouri Western State University. The talk is co-sponsored by Missouri Western’s Western Activities Council, Student Government Association, Political Science Students Association and Philosophy Scholars Association. It is free and open to the public.

Dr. Johnston is a historian at the City University of New York and maintains a blog, studentactivism.net. He received his doctorate degree from CUNY in 2009. His dissertation is a history of American student organizing before, during and after the 1960s as seen through the lens of the United States National Student Association, the most prominent student government organization of the time.

In addition to his public speech, Dr. Johnston will conduct workshops on organizational strategies for campus organizations.

Constitution Day is a federal holiday commemorating the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.
