The theatre and cinema program at Missouri Western State University will hold open auditions for “J.B.,” its first production of the 2012-13 season, “A Year of the Tony,” from 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28 in the Potter Hall Theater. Those interested may sign up for an audition time via the online callboard at www.missouriwestern.edu/theatrecinema/callboard.asp.

Actors should be prepared to read sides from the script. Sides and other information are available on the website.

All Missouri Western theatre and cinema auditions are open to the public. Community members are encouraged to audition with the understanding that priority casting is given to Missouri Western students. In “J.B.” there are up to five roles available for young children and teenagers.

Rehearsals will begin Thursday, Aug. 30 and run Sunday through Thursday evenings. Performances are Oct. 4-7.

“J.B.,” by Archibald MacLeish, is a modern retelling of the Biblical story of Job. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play in 1959. “It is one of the memorable works of the century as verse, as drama and as spiritual inquiry,” read a contemporary review in the New York Times. “In every respect, ‘J.B.’ is theatre on its highest level.”
