The health, physical education and recreation department at Missouri Western State University will host the annual Children’s Lifetime Sports Academy June 4-8. Classes are held from 1:30 to 5:15 p.m. each day. The academy is for children ages 8 to 12, and enrollment is limited to 150. The cost is $75 for the first child in the family and $60 for each additional child.

The academy gives participants a chance to learn the skills and values in sports activities that can provide fun, health and fitness throughout a person’s life. Younger students will receive introductory instruction in a number of lifetime sports. Older students will receive intermediate instruction with an emphasis on outdoor adventure activities.

Some of the activities include canoeing, rappelling, fishing, archery, obstacle course, swimming, pickle ball, racquetball, badminton, recreational games and many others. The availability of some activities is dependent on the weather.

Participants must furnish their own tennis shoes, swimming suits, towels and change for the vending machines. All other equipment is furnished by Missouri Western.

It is recommended that participants pre-register. Registration forms are available at the department’s web site. If the academy is not full, registration will take place at the Looney Complex door on the academy’s first day, Monday, June 4.
