St. Joseph, Mo. – April 13, 2012 – The Western Playhouse, a new professional summer theatre company hosted by the Western Institute of Missouri Western State University, will hold auditions for its first summer season in St. Joseph on April 21 and in Kansas City on April 28. Productions include “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” “Barefoot in the Park,” and “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.”
Auditions are by appointment only. You must reserve a time slot by visiting the Western Playhouse website, westernplayhouse.com. Time slots are available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at the Black Box Theater in Potter Hall on the Missouri Western campus, 4525 Downs Drive, St. Joseph; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at the Fishtank Performance Studio, 1715 Wyandotte St., Kansas City, Mo.
All auditioning are asked to prepare a comedic monologue of up to one minute in length. Those auditioning for the musicals should also prepare a one-minute selection from a traditional musical theatre song. Bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided. You may be asked to read from the specific show during the audition.
Contracts will be awarded on a per-show basis, but there is the potential to be in the full company for all shows. All actors will be offered a stipend. The playhouse is seeking non-union talent at this time. Callbacks will be held on Saturday, May 5. Rehearsals for the first show, “Charlie Brown,” start on May 14.
