Criminal Justice/Legal
Studies Students Present Research
Findings at ACA Conference
Andrew Weeden and Leeann
Fann, two senior criminal justice
majors at Missouri Western State
University, presented research poster
sessions at the annual winter conference
of the American Correctional Association
in Phoenix, Arizona in January. They
were accompanied on the trip by Assistant
Professor Gene Bonham, Jr. with the
Criminal Justice & Legal Studies
department. Andrew presented results
of his research on the fear of flying
commercial airlines after September
11th. Leeann presented results of
her research on the effectiveness
of state programs dealing with child
support programs. Andrew won First
Place in the undergraduate division,
competing against other students
from Central Missouri State University,
Eastern Kentucky University, and
Appalachian State College. Both students
did an excellent job presenting their
research and represented Missouri
Western in a very professional manner.
These students, along with Dr. Bonham
and Assistant Professor Ramona Finley
also attended the Student Affairs
Committee meeting of the American
Correctional Association while in
Phoenix. At this meeting, plans were
made for the development of a student
Chapter of the ACA for students at
Missouri Western. Andrew and Leann
are busy recruiting students and
meeting requirements for this student
organization before they graduate
this Spring. Major congratulations
to these students for their scholarly
work and presentations.
