{"id":1967,"date":"2018-09-23T02:31:48","date_gmt":"2018-09-23T02:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/yearbook\/?p=1967"},"modified":"2019-06-30T11:26:58","modified_gmt":"2019-06-30T16:26:58","slug":"5k-for-als","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/yearbook\/2018\/09\/23\/5k-for-als\/","title":{"rendered":"5k for ALS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">By: Jacob Robertson<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For the second straight year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MWSUPhiDeltaThetaMoEta\/\">Phi Delta Theta<\/a> at Missouri Western hosted our \u201cPhi Delta Theta 5K for ALS\u201d to benefit those suffering from ALS or Lou Gehrig\u2019s Disease.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Phi Delta Theta supports ALS which is our national philanthropy because of MLB Hall of Famer and Phi Delt Alumni <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lougehrig.com\/\">Lou Gehrig<\/a>. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Although Phi Delt at Western hosts numerous events each year in support of ALS, our flagship event is this 5K. Supported by a dozen local and regional sponsors, the Phi Delta 5K for ALS raised over $3,000 in 2017, up from $2,500 in its inaugural year. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This past year we had 70 race participants who ran a 3.1 mile (5K) route through the beautiful and spacious Western campus. \u00a0We feel the event is not only a great way to raise money and awareness for this horrible disease, but also a great way to showcase the awesome campus we call home. \u00a0We had runners from all over come to run, several driving up from the Kansas City area. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We are excited to have the great support from our sponsors the past two years and are looking forward to many of them staying on board for the 2018 event, which we expect to be larger than the previous two years. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The brothers have a wonderful time planning and setting up the event.
