Auditions held in September added many new members. The group holds performances during the year as well as having a couple of shows off campus.

Many would think that it is just about strong singing abilities; sing the songs selected and go home, but coming together with individuals who have similar interests can be a great way to create friendships that last well past the day the tassel is moved.

“We get to be creative and get to just have fun,” president Logan Lawson said “It’s not really like a structured group. It’s more, kind of a club – just get together and make music and have fun.”

One of the group members, Jack Malo, expressed why being a member of this ensemble is well worth the 9-11 p.m. twice-a-week rehearsals.

“Me personally, I enjoy the friendship that comes along with it, making music with people always brings people together in general,” Malo said. “It’s something that’s different than choir, or band, or anything else that’s really on campus. It’s a lot of the current pop music; being able to put a different twist on that really adds a different effect to the music that’s really interesting.”

The audition process can be intimidating, but it also gave students a chance to shine. Member Dylan Walker gives a little background detail on the process.

“It’s a lot less stressful than I thought it would be,” Walker said. “The audition process is basically just being able to sing and match pitch.”

Although Lawson has been a member for three years, this is his first semester being president. He is excited to do many things with the group this year.

“I want to make sure everyone likes what I’m doing,” Lawson said. “I just want to make sure everyone has a vote in the process.”

As anyone could imagine, being president can get a little crazy. Lawson said that although the job can be a challenge, it is just as rewarding.

“I have to get room reservations,” Lawson said. “I have to make the agenda for the group, I get to help put together the pieces that we’re going to perform – sort of plan out when we’re going to perform, where we’re going to perform, that kind of stuff.”

The group has an active Facebook page where they post their performance schedule. From performing at the dorms and even the C-store this group is something you do not want to miss.

Singing modern pop tunes straight from the radio and having some of the best singers come together are just a couple of the great attributes the Acapella Group have to offer.
